This beaker \/ vase was originally made and bisque fired for my degree work in Cheltenham. However I never got around to glazing it until almost 23 years later at my Sweeney Pottery studio.<\/p>\n
The spikey rim warns against drinking from the vessel. I call this shape my ‘urn’ shape, though I often use it as the body of loving cups.<\/p>\n
The underglaze printed images are straight from my unconscious, I call them the ‘Virus’ range, but there are distinct references to my early interest in fossils too.<\/p>\n
This vase, or beaker, was my first ever experiment with this form of under-glaze printing. I wasn’t at all sure that the prints would not simply run with the glaze on the vertical surface. I think it worked.<\/p>\n
