A large round bowl on thrown pedestal foot with black under-glaze prints.
\nThis is the first one of these bowls I’ve made. It was an experiment \/ prototype which allowed me to solve all the technical difficulties along the way. I like that it is not perfectly round (slightly warped) as this seems to add to the shape and subject.
\nThe underglaze printed images are my own artwork which was inspired by prehistoric cave art. The figures represent warrior spirits.<\/p>\n
Slab formed over a hump mould and wheel thrown. I built the hump model by temporarily converting my potter’s wheel into a plaster turning lathe and turning the shape then endlessly scraping and sanding until the shape was exactly what I wanted. Apparently this is not what a potter’s wheel ‘should’ be used for…<\/p>\n
My method of underglaze printing was supposed to not be possible (or so I was told), but every puzzle has a solution if you refuse to give up.<\/p>\n
This is the first of its kind, but I like it a lot and I intend to make more along similar lines…<\/p>\n
